So we here at the TayaIT team just launched our second web product – Ba2okalakeih.com (pronounced ba-o-lak-eih). A social ranking website built from the ground up – we are really striving to take the Arabic internet out of the hands of just the big web publishers in the feild and to allow the Users to really dictate what can be labelled “Quality Arabic Content” on the web. We call it the democratization of the internet.
We allow our users to vote stories up and down, and each story maintains what we refer to as a “velocity” i.e. a rating of how much interest our Users have shown in a story (both positive and negative interest) over a particular period of time. So a story with a thousand negative votes will make it to the front page, not for its popularity among users, but for the intensity of their feelings about it. Given that Arabs love to express their opinions (both positively and negatively) – were really interested in seeing how this turns out.
